Maps and statistics of Herne
Herne is a city in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany. It lies in the Ruhr area, one of the country's major urban regions. Historically, Herne was a minor village but grew rapidly during the 19th century due to industrialization, particularly coal mining and steel production. Today, while much of its heavy industry has declined, Herne remains a vital part of the Ruhr metropolis, known for its cultural events like the annual Cranger Kirmes, one of Germany's largest funfairs.
