The district covers an area of around 1,651 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 258,000 people. It surrounds the independent city of Leipzig and boasts diverse landscapes, including parts of the picturesque Ore Mountains and numerous lakes, which are popular for recreation. The district's economy is supported by various industries, including manufacturing and agriculture.
